I’m entering my first year in Legal Studies at the University of Waterloo this fall. Writing used to be how I entertained myself in elementary school, and now it is a way for me to be able to express complex thoughts creatively in a way that is easier to understand. My writing is meant to evoke feeling, whether it be nostalgia, fear, or an emotion that cannot quite be described. Through writing, I can explore different states of the human mind.
My name is Lili Yao and I’m currently a grade 12 student attending Dr. Norman Bethune Collegiate Institute who is passionate about poetry. For as long as I can remember, my mind has never been able to shut up. Throughout the day, I catch myself making observations of the world around me, but I have a terrible memory. Therefore, I love how writing is a way to preserve the memories that are worth remembering.
